Moinabad or Chevella? Choosing Along the Chevella Road
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team

Moinabad and Chevella sit on the same road out of Hyderabad. Here is how to decide how far down it your group should go for a farmhouse stay.
Moinabad and Chevella are on the same road heading west out of Hyderabad, and the choice between them comes down to one question: how far down that road does your group want to drive? Moinabad comes first, just past the ORR, and holds the largest cluster of private farmhouses near the city. Chevella is further on. For day outings, Friday-night arrivals and mixed-age groups, stopping at Moinabad usually makes more sense.
It helps to picture the Chevella road as a timeline rather than two separate places. Each stage adds something to the trip and takes something away.
The Chevella road, stage by stage
- The ORR and Appa Junction. Coming from Gachibowli, Kokapet or the airport, you ride the tolled ORR and exit for the Chevella road near Appa Junction. This is where the city starts to thin out.
- Moinabad. Just past the ORR. The road passes Moinabad town, and villages such as Aziz Nagar, Kanakamamidi, Surangal and Tolkatta lie around it, many with farmhouses a few kilometres off the main road. Chilkur Balaji, Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar are all on this side.
- Chevella. Further west along the same road. The drive is longer and the city feels further away.
- Vikarabad and the Ananthagiri hills. Beyond Chevella: forested hills, monsoon drives and short treks. This is a day trip in its own right, not something to tack onto a farmhouse afternoon.
Seen this way, the question is not which place is "better" but where on this line your group's plan fits.
What stopping at Moinabad gives you
Time
From Gachibowli or the Financial District, Moinabad is usually roughly 30 to 45 minutes outside peak traffic. Friday evenings and long weekends can double that. Every kilometre beyond Moinabad adds to both the drive in and the drive back, and the drive back is the one people remember when they are tired.
Choice
With the largest cluster of private farmhouses near Hyderabad, Moinabad lets you compare pools, room counts, lawns and prices for the same dates. On festival weekends, that choice can be the difference between getting a farmhouse that fits and taking whatever is left.
Two ways in
Moinabad can be reached by the ORR or, from the Mehdipatnam and old city side, by the toll-free road via Langar Houz, Himayat Sagar and Aziz Nagar. Having two approaches helps when one is jammed. Our guide to reaching Moinabad from Hyderabad explains both.
Things to do the next morning
Chilkur Balaji (calmer on weekday mornings), the Gandipet park and viewpoint, and Mrugavani National Park are all on the Moinabad side. That makes an overnight stay easy to round off.
When going further down the road might appeal
Some groups deliberately want to feel far away. If your plan is a slow two-night break with no fixed schedule, and nobody minds a longer drive, travelling past Moinabad is a reasonable choice. The same is true if you are combining a stay with a trip towards Vikarabad and the Ananthagiri hills, though we would still suggest treating the hills as a separate day.
The honest trade-off: further out means a longer drive for every guest, fewer nearby add-ons, and a longer wait for a cab back. Weigh that against how "away" you want to feel.
It is also worth asking whether "far away" is really about kilometres. For many groups, the feeling comes from the farmhouse itself: a gate that closes behind you, a lawn with no neighbours in sight, mango trees instead of apartment blocks, and a night sky you cannot see from Kondapur. Plenty of Moinabad farmhouses deliver exactly that, a few kilometres off the main road, without making the drive much longer. Look at the photos and the surroundings on each listing before assuming you need to go further.
Matching the trip to the stretch of road
| Type of trip | Where it fits best | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Day outing, back home by night | Moinabad | Less time driving, more time at the farmhouse |
| Friday-night arrival after work | Moinabad | Shorter drive in peak traffic |
| Family stay with elders and kids | Moinabad | Shorter journey, temple and parks nearby |
| Celebration with guests arriving separately | Moinabad | Easier for everyone to find, two route options |
| Long, unhurried two-night break | Either | Depends on how far your group wants to go |
| Ananthagiri hills trip | Separate day | Too far to combine comfortably with an afternoon stay |
Practical points for any farmhouse on this road
- Drive the last stretch in daylight on a first visit. Village roads off the Chevella road can be dark at night.
- Share the exact location pin with every car and with any cab you book.
- Plan the return. Cabs out are easy to book; a ride back from a village can take longer. See cabs to and from a Moinabad farmhouse.
- Buy supplies before you turn off the main road. Moinabad town is a good last stop; shops near farmhouses are small.
- Check house rules on music, outside food, alcohol and check-in times. They vary by farmhouse.
- Never drink and drive on this road or any other. Stay over, or pick a driver.
Making the most of the Moinabad stretch
If you settle on Moinabad, an overnight stay gives you the best of both worlds: a farmhouse evening and a morning on the reservoir side before heading home. If the hills are calling, keep them for another day using our Ananthagiri hills day trip guide.

Frequently asked questions
Is Chevella further than Moinabad from Hyderabad?
Yes. Both are on the Chevella road west of the city, and Moinabad comes first, just past the ORR, with Chevella further along.
Which is better for a day outing, Moinabad or Chevella?
Moinabad usually suits day outings better because the drive is shorter, leaving more time at the farmhouse and an easier trip home.
Can we visit Ananthagiri hills from a Moinabad farmhouse?
You can, but treat it as a separate day trip. Vikarabad and the Ananthagiri hills are well beyond Chevella, so they do not fit neatly into a farmhouse afternoon.
How do I reach Moinabad on the Chevella road?
From the west of the city, take the ORR and exit for the Chevella road near Appa Junction. From Mehdipatnam, the road via Langar Houz and Himayat Sagar is toll-free.
