Ananthagiri Hills as a Day Trip From a Moinabad Farmhouse
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team

The Ananthagiri hills near Vikarabad are a proper day out, not a detour. Here is how to build a two-night Moinabad farmhouse stay around a day in the forest.
The Ananthagiri hills, near Vikarabad, are a forested stretch further west along the same road that brings you to Moinabad. You can visit them during a farmhouse stay, but treat them as a separate day trip, not something to squeeze in between check-in and check-out. Plan a stay of at least two nights, give Ananthagiri the full middle day, and come back to the pool in the evening.
Done that way, you get the best of both: green hills, monsoon drives and short treks during the day, and a private farmhouse to return to at night instead of a hotel room.
Why it needs its own day
From Moinabad, you continue west along the Chevella road, through Chevella, and on towards Vikarabad and the hills. It is a meaningful drive in each direction, and the hills deserve time once you are there. Trying to fit them into a one-night stay usually means one of three things goes wrong:
- You rush the hills and barely leave the car.
- You arrive back at the farmhouse after dark, tired, with the evening already gone.
- You cut into check-out and spend the last morning stressed instead of relaxed.
Farmhouses usually check in during the early afternoon and check out in the late morning, which leaves no real full day inside a single-night booking. That is the core reason to book two nights.

A two-night plan that works
| Day | Morning | Afternoon and evening |
|---|---|---|
| Day 1 | Shop in the city or Moinabad town | Check in, swim, settle in, early dinner |
| Day 2 | Early start west towards Vikarabad and Ananthagiri | Back at the farmhouse before dark; barbecue and rest |
| Day 3 | Slow breakfast, a last swim | Check out in the late morning, drive home |
A long weekend is the natural fit for this plan, though those weekends book up fast and cost more. Our post on booking a Moinabad farmhouse for a long weekend covers how to secure dates early. If you can take a weekday off, a Monday-to-Thursday stay is usually better value; compare rates on the Moinabad farmhouse price list.
Best season for the hills
Monsoon, roughly June to September
This is when Ananthagiri is most famous: forest at its greenest, mist on the slopes and some of the prettiest drives around Hyderabad. It is also when roads can be wet and visibility poor, so drive slowly and start early.
November to February
Pleasant weather and clear skies make this the most comfortable season for walking. The hills are less dramatic than in the monsoon, but the trek is far more relaxed.
March to June
Hot. If you go, start at dawn and be back at the farmhouse for an afternoon in the pool. This is also mango season around Moinabad, which is its own consolation.
Packing for the day out
Pack a separate day bag the night before so the morning departure is quick.
- Sturdy shoes with grip; forest paths can be slippery, especially after rain
- Rain jackets or ponchos in the monsoon, and a change of clothes in the car
- Plenty of water and a packed breakfast or snacks
- Insect repellent and a basic first-aid kit
- Phone power banks; network can be patchy in forested areas
- A bag for your rubbish, to bring everything back out
Leave the farmhouse's party speaker, pool floats and barbecue supplies behind; the day bag should be light enough for one person to carry on a short trek. If the farmhouse has a kitchen and its rules allow cooking, a simple packed lunch made the night before saves you hunting for food on the road.
Check local guidance before setting off on any trek, stick to known paths, and avoid stream crossings after heavy rain. Information on timings, entry or permitted activities in the hills can change, so verify it before your trip.
Who stays behind?
Not everyone in a large group will want a long drive and a trek. That is one of the advantages of a farmhouse base: the group can split for the day without anyone being stranded in a hotel lobby.
- Grandparents and very young children can enjoy a quiet day on the lawns and in the kids' pool, if the farmhouse has one, with at least one adult on duty.
- The trekking group leaves early and returns by evening.
- Someone stays in touch with the caretaker so they know who is in and who is out.

Getting back safely
The return drive matters most. You will be tired, it may be getting dark, and the last part of the route to many farmhouses runs along village roads that can be very dark at night. Leave the hills with daylight to spare. Save the farmhouse's location pin on every phone, and let the caretaker know your expected arrival time. Any drinks wait until every car is parked; never drink and drive.
Other outings closer to the farmhouse
If a full day in the hills feels like too much, there are gentler options a short drive from Moinabad: the Gandipet park at Osman Sagar, Chilkur Balaji temple and Mrugavani National Park. Our guide to places to visit near Moinabad covers these, and our post on Moinabad in the monsoon is useful if you are travelling in the rainy months.

The monsoon is the greenest and most popular time, while November to February is the most comfortable for walking. Summer is hot, so start very early.
