Do You Pay the Security Deposit Online or at the Farmhouse?
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team

The booking payment is online; the security deposit depends on the farmhouse. Some collect at the gate, some online, some not at all. How refunds and receipts work.
It depends on the farmhouse. The booking payment on this site is always made online, by UPI, card or net banking, and that is what holds your dates. The security deposit is a separate matter: some owners collect it at the gate on check-in, in cash or by UPI; some add it to the online payment; and some do not take one at all. Each farmhouse page states which applies, and you see any deposit amount before you pay.
Because two different payments are involved, this post keeps them apart and explains what to expect for each, how the refund comes back, and how to avoid paying the wrong person.
Two payments, two purposes
| Booking payment | Security deposit | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is for | Reserves the farmhouse for your slot | Covers damage, extra guests or cleaning if needed |
| When it is paid | At booking, online | At check-in or with the booking, depending on the farmhouse |
| How it is paid | UPI, card or net banking through the site | Cash or UPI at the gate, or online with the booking |
| Refundable? | As per the cancellation policy | Yes, in full if nothing is deducted |
| Who holds it | Processed through the booking | The owner or caretaker |
| Shown on the farmhouse page? | Yes, full price for your dates | Yes, where the farmhouse takes one |
The booking payment is covered in our Moinabad farmhouse booking guide. Everything below is about the deposit.

Deposit collected at the farmhouse
This is the most common arrangement in Moinabad. At check-in the caretaker takes the deposit, usually by UPI to the owner's number or in cash, before handing over the house. A few practical points:
- Get an acknowledgement. A WhatsApp message from the owner confirming the amount received, or a signed slip from the caretaker. Do not hand over cash without one.
- Carry the exact amount. Village shops cannot break large notes, and the caretaker may not have change.
- Pay the person named in your confirmation. If the UPI name does not match the owner or farmhouse name you were given, pause and check with us first.
- Walk through the house together. Point out anything already damaged before you pay, so it is noted. Our post on what to check when you arrive at a farmhouse lists the usual suspects.
Deposit paid online
Some farmhouses, including several managed ones, prefer the deposit to be paid along with the booking so the caretaker does not handle money. In that case:
- The deposit appears as a separate line in your booking, not folded into the rental.
- The refund comes back after check-out, to the same payment source you used.
- Processing takes longer than a cash return at the gate; ask for a timeline when you book.
Farmhouses without a deposit
Plenty of smaller farmhouses in villages such as Aziz Nagar, Tolkatta, Surangal and Kanakamamidi do not take a deposit at all. That does not mean damage is free. If something breaks, the owner sends a figure after the stay and you settle it directly. Our post on what happens if something breaks at the farmhouse covers how that is worked out fairly.
Getting the deposit back
The refund follows a check-out inspection. To make it painless:
- Finish packing before check-out time so the caretaker can look around without rushing.
- Walk the house with them: rooms, bathrooms, kitchen, lawn, pool deck.
- If a deduction is proposed, ask for the reason and the figure in writing.
- Cash deposits usually come back on the spot; UPI and online deposits within a few days. If nothing arrives by the date agreed, message the owner, then us.
- Keep your screenshots until the refund lands.
Common deductions are extra guests beyond the booked count, a dirty kitchen, broken glass by the pool, and overstaying check-out. None of these should surprise you if you have read the house rules.
Who you should and should not pay
Deposits are where people get cheated, usually by someone posing as an owner on a phone number that has nothing to do with the farmhouse. Keep these rules:
- The booking payment goes only through the site or to the WhatsApp number on the contact page.
- Nobody asks you for a deposit days before check-in on a number you have not seen in your confirmation. If that happens, do not pay; forward the message to us.
- Do not pay a deposit to reserve dates. A deposit is not a booking, and a booking request alone does not reserve the farmhouse either; only the booking payment does.
- At the gate, pay the amount shown on the farmhouse page, not a new figure announced on the day. If the amounts differ, call the owner before handing anything over.
Questions to ask before you pay anything
- Is there a security deposit, and how much?
- Is it collected online or at the farmhouse, and in cash or by UPI?
- When and how is it returned?
- What are the usual deductions?
- Will I get a written acknowledgement when I pay?
Answers to all five sit on the farmhouse page or come back on WhatsApp within minutes. Our post on what your booking confirmation includes shows where the deposit terms appear once you book.
Before you reserve
Deposits are one of the house rules that genuinely vary between farmhouses, alongside music timing, guest caps and check-out times. Read the rules on the page, ask what is unclear, and keep every payment inside the channels you were given. The cancellation policy explains what happens to the booking payment if plans change. Then browse Moinabad farmhouses, pick your dates and see the full price with any deposit shown.

Frequently asked questions
Is the security deposit included in the farmhouse price?
No. The price shown is the rental for your slot. Where a farmhouse takes a deposit it is listed separately on the farmhouse page and returned after check-out if nothing is deducted.
Can I pay the deposit by UPI at the farmhouse?
At most farmhouses that collect at the gate, yes, usually to the owner's number. Ask for a WhatsApp acknowledgement of the amount, and check the UPI name matches the owner or farmhouse named in your confirmation.
How long does a deposit refund take?
Cash deposits are usually returned at check-out. UPI and online deposits generally come back within a few days. Ask for a timeline when you pay and keep your screenshots until the refund lands.
Someone has asked me to pay a deposit to confirm dates. Is that normal?
No. Dates are held only by the booking payment made through the site. A deposit request from an unfamiliar number before check-in should be forwarded to us on WhatsApp, not paid.
