What ID Proof Do You Need to Check In at a Farmhouse?

Nearly every Moinabad farmhouse asks for a government photo ID from each adult at check-in. Here is what is accepted, how it is collected and what to carry.

Almost every farmhouse in Moinabad asks for a government-issued photo ID from every adult in the group, not just the person who booked. Which IDs are accepted, whether a photo on WhatsApp is enough, and when the caretaker checks them vary a little by property, so treat what follows as the typical pattern and confirm on the farmhouse page or over WhatsApp (+91 91827 69746).

If you want the short version: carry the original of one government photo ID per adult, have a digital copy on your phone as backup, and be ready to show them at the gate.

Why a private farmhouse asks for ID at all

An owner is handing a whole property, pool, bedrooms and lawns included, to a group they have never met, in a village where the caretaker is the only person on site. ID does three jobs for them:

  • It tells the caretaker who is actually inside the gate, which matters if something goes wrong at midnight.
  • It backs the booking: the name on the ID matches the name on the confirmation, so the slot cannot be passed around.
  • It covers the deposit and any damage conversation, because there is a real person attached to the booking.

It is not a sign of suspicion. Families of ten and corporate teams of thirty go through the same step, and it takes a few minutes.

Which IDs are usually accepted

Hosts see the same few documents most of the time:

  • Aadhaar card, the one most guests carry.
  • Driving licence, convenient because the drivers have it anyway.
  • Voter ID.
  • Passport, and the only option for guests who are not Indian citizens. Ask whether the host also wants to see the visa page.

A PAN card has a photo but no address, and some hosts do not accept it on its own; ask if it is all you have. A college ID or an office badge is not a government ID and is rarely enough by itself, though it does no harm alongside one.

Original, photocopy or a photo on your phone?

This is the part that varies most. The common arrangements are:

ArrangementHow it worksWhat to carry
At the gateThe caretaker looks at or photographs each ID as guests arriveOriginals, one per adult
Ahead of timeThe organiser sends ID photos on WhatsApp before the day; the gate check is just a headcountClear photos, front and back
Digital copyMany hosts accept a copy from a government app on your phoneHave it open before you reach the gate

One Moinabad-specific tip: phone signal on village lanes can be patchy, and a digital ID that will not load at the gate is no ID at all. Keep at least one physical ID per car. Our post on phone signal and Wi-Fi at Moinabad farmhouses explains where the dead spots tend to be.

Who needs to show one

  • Every adult, typically. Not just the booker.
  • Children are usually not asked for ID, but they do count towards the guest number, so do not leave them off the headcount.
  • The person who booked is normally expected to be present at check-in with the ID that matches the booking name. If you are booking on behalf of someone else, say so in advance; the booking for someone else post covers how hosts handle that.
  • Late arrivals who come after the main group has checked in should expect the caretaker to ask for ID at the gate too. Tell your friends to carry it rather than assuming the check is over.

What happens to your ID details

Be honest with yourself about what you are sharing. A caretaker photographing an Aadhaar card means the owner holds a copy of it, at least for a while. Most owners keep these only as a record of the booking, but if it bothers you, it is reasonable to ask how long they keep it and to show the ID rather than send it. Do not share more than is asked for; a host needs one ID per adult, not a scan of everyone's full wallet. If you are sending copies ahead on WhatsApp, send them to the number on the contact page or the owner's number as given in the confirmation, not to a number that messages you out of the blue.

A check-in checklist for the organiser

  1. Message the group two days before: "Carry your Aadhaar or licence; the farmhouse checks ID at the gate."
  2. Count the adults and children separately and match them to the booking.
  3. If the host asked for IDs in advance, send them in one batch, labelled with names, the day before.
  4. Keep the booking confirmation on your phone and a screenshot in case there is no signal.
  5. Arrive together if you can. One gate check for a convoy is quicker than five separate ones.

The first hour at a Moinabad farmhouse and what to check when you arrive pick up where the gate leaves off.

If someone forgets their ID

It happens, usually to the friend who came straight from office. What the caretaker does next depends on the owner: some accept a clear photo of the ID sent by a family member within a few minutes, some let the person in on the strength of the rest of the group's IDs, and some will not admit anyone without one. Do not count on leniency. A quick reminder in the group chat the night before costs nothing and avoids an awkward wait at a gate on a dark lane.

Before you set off

Open your farmhouse's page and read the house rules; if the ID line is vague, a one-line question on WhatsApp settles it. The booking guide covers what else to confirm before the day, and the farmhouse listings show live availability if you are still choosing where to go.

Frequently asked questions

Is Aadhaar compulsory for a farmhouse check-in?

Not specifically. Hosts want a government photo ID for each adult, and Aadhaar, a driving licence, voter ID or passport all usually work. Confirm with the farmhouse if you plan to use anything else.

Can I show a digital copy of my ID instead of the original?

Many hosts accept a copy from a government app, but not all do, and village signal can fail at the gate. Carry at least one physical ID per car to be safe.

Do children need ID at a farmhouse?

Usually not. Children are rarely asked for documents, but they count towards the guest number, so include them in the headcount you give the host.

Does the person who booked have to be there at check-in?

Typically yes, with the ID that matches the booking name. If someone else will lead the group, tell the host in advance so the caretaker knows whom to expect.
