Landmarks on the Chevella Road to Watch For
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team

Reservoir, Aziz Nagar, Chilkur turn, Moinabad town, your lane. The Chevella road landmarks in order, what each one tells you and what to do when you reach it.
The Chevella road does not announce itself with big signboards, and map pins for farmhouses sometimes land on the main road rather than at the gate. So it helps to know the sequence of landmarks you will pass, in order, from the edge of Hyderabad into the Moinabad villages. Once you know that Himayat Sagar comes before Aziz Nagar, and the Chilkur turn before Moinabad town, you can tell at a glance whether you have gone too far.
Here is the road as it unfolds from the city, what each landmark tells you, and what to do when you reach it.
Two ways onto the road
Most people join the Chevella road in one of two ways. From the west and south (Gachibowli, Kokapet, the airport), you take the ORR and exit near Appa Junction, paying the toll. From Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki and the old city you come through Langar Houz with no toll, and the road runs along Himayat Sagar before meeting the Moinabad stretch at Aziz Nagar. Both are covered turn by turn in the how to reach Moinabad guide; this post is about what you see once you are on the road.

Landmarks in order, city to villages
| Landmark | What it tells you | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Langar Houz (old-city route) | You are about to leave the city; this is the slow part | Fuel and last big shopping, if you are on this side |
| ORR exit near Appa Junction (ring road route) | You are leaving the toll road for the Chevella road | Watch for the exit; missing it means a long loop |
| Himayat Sagar | The reservoir beside the road means you are on the right road | Enjoy it; no stopping on the embankment, no swimming |
| Aziz Nagar | The first Moinabad village; the farmhouse belt begins | If your farmhouse is here, your turn-off is close |
| Chilkur turn-off | Side road to Chilkur Balaji on Osman Sagar; Mrugavani National Park is nearby | Heavy on weekends and festivals; expect pilgrim traffic |
| Moinabad town | The mandal centre; the biggest shops you will see | Last stop for ice, water, milk and anything you forgot |
| Village turn-offs | Lanes to Tolkatta, Surangal, Kanakamamidi, Amdapur and others | Slow down; single-track and unlit after dark |
| Chevella | You have left Moinabad mandal | Turn around; you have overshot |
Himayat Sagar: the landmark you cannot miss
The reservoir is the single most reassuring sight on the drive. Water beside the road, with the embankment and the open sky over it, means you are past the city and heading the right way. Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar (Gandipet) are twin reservoirs built in the early twentieth century for flood protection and drinking water, and they still mark the western edge of Hyderabad. There is a fuller drive-along in the post on the Himayat Sagar drive near Moinabad. Do not stop on the road here for photos; pull-offs are few and traffic moves fast.
Aziz Nagar: where the belt begins
Aziz Nagar is the gateway village, and a lot of farmhouses cluster around it precisely because it is the first stop off the road. If your booking is in Aziz Nagar, start looking for your lane as soon as you are through the village; if your booking is further on, do not be tempted by the first "farmhouse" sign you see. Names repeat on gates and boards, and the only board that matters is the one at your pin.
The Chilkur turn and the temple traffic
A side road leads to Chilkur Balaji, the "Visa Balaji" temple on the banks of Osman Sagar, where devotees walk 11 pradakshinas with a wish and 108 once it is granted. On weekends and festival days this junction fills with pilgrim vehicles, and the main road slows for a stretch. If you plan to combine darshan with your stay, the farmhouses near Chilkur Balaji temple keep that detour short, and a weekday morning visit is far calmer than a Saturday. If you are not visiting the temple, simply expect the crawl and keep going.
Moinabad town: your last real shops
The mandal headquarters is the last place with shops of any size before the villages. Beyond this point, the stores you pass are small village kiosks that may or may not have ice, bread or the brand of chips the kids want. Most groups do a big shop in the city and top up here. The post on groceries and supplies before check-in has a list of what runs out first.
Village turn-offs and the dark stretch
After the town, the Chevella road keeps going west, and the farmhouse villages branch off it on lanes that are sometimes signposted and sometimes not. This is where the map pin earns its keep. Open it before you reach the town so you know which turn is yours; phone signal on the lanes can be thinner than on the main road. Lanes to villages such as Tolkatta and Surangal are narrow, with farm traffic by day and no lighting by night. Keep your speed down and your headlights dipped for oncoming two-wheelers, and expect the last few kilometres to take longer than the map suggests.
If you reach Chevella, you have gone too far
Chevella is the next town west, and beyond it the road continues to Vikarabad and the Ananthagiri hills, a separate day trip rather than something to tack onto a farmhouse arrival. Reaching Chevella while looking for a Moinabad farmhouse means you missed a village turn, usually because the pin was on the main road and you expected to see the gate from it. Turn around calmly, call the caretaker, and ask for the landmark at the lane.
Reading the landmarks on the way back
The sequence runs in reverse on Sunday: your lane, the town, the Chilkur turn, Aziz Nagar, the reservoir, and then the choice between the ORR and Langar Houz. The temple junction is the slow spot in the evening, and Langar Houz is the other; if you are going to the old city, leave the farmhouse before the pilgrim traffic empties out in the late afternoon. For the ORR, the slow part is simply the queue at the toll on a long weekend.
Plan the drive, then pick the farmhouse
Knowing the order of landmarks turns a stressful first visit into a simple sequence: reservoir, Aziz Nagar, Chilkur turn, town, your lane. With that in your head, browse the Moinabad farmhouses, open the pin on your shortlist, and see which lane you would rather be on when the sun has gone.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know I am on the right road to Moinabad?
Himayat Sagar is the giveaway. Water on one side of the road, past the ORR or past Langar Houz, means you are heading west on the Chevella road towards Aziz Nagar.
Is the Chilkur Balaji turn before or after Moinabad town?
Before. The side road to Chilkur Balaji on Osman Sagar comes after Aziz Nagar and before you reach Moinabad town, and it gets busy with pilgrim traffic on weekends and festivals.
Where is the last proper shop before the farmhouse villages?
Moinabad town, the mandal centre. Beyond it the villages have only small kiosks, so top up ice, water and milk there.
What if I reach Chevella?
You have overshot Moinabad mandal. Turn around, call the caretaker and ask for the landmark at your village lane; the pin was probably placed on the main road at the turn-off.
