A practical packing list for an overnight farmhouse stay in Moinabad, split into personal, group and kitchen bags, plus what to leave behind.

For a night at a Moinabad farmhouse, pack in three layers: a personal bag (ID, swimwear, a change of clothes, toiletries, medicines, chargers), a shared group kit (torch, power bank, speaker, first-aid, mosquito repellent, garbage bags), and a food box (snacks, drinking water, breakfast basics). Most farmhouses provide beds, linen and a kitchen, but towels, toiletries and night-time essentials vary, so confirm on the farmhouse page before you leave.

Packing for a farmhouse is not like packing for a hotel. There is no front desk to call for a toothbrush, and the nearest shop may be a drive away on a dark village road. Here is how to pack so you do not have to leave once you have arrived.

The one thing every adult must carry

Before anything else: a government photo ID for every adult. Most farmhouses ask for it at check-in, and some will not let a guest stay without one. Aadhaar, a driving licence, passport or voter ID usually work. Keep a photo of it on your phone as well, but carry the physical card in case the caretaker asks for it.

Your personal bag

  • Swimwear in proper swim fabric. Many farmhouses ask that guests do not swim in regular cotton clothes, for the pool's sake.
  • Two changes of clothes: one for the evening, one for the drive home. Clothes rarely dry overnight after swimming.
  • Something warm between November and February. Open countryside west of the city cools down at night more than you might expect.
  • Slippers or flip-flops for the lawn and pool deck.
  • Towel, unless the farmhouse page says towels are provided. Bring a separate one for the pool either way.
  • Toiletries: toothbrush, paste, soap, shampoo, sunscreen, a comb, and any skincare you use.
  • Medicines: your regular prescriptions plus a few basics for headaches, acidity and allergies.
  • Charger and a power bank. Village power cuts happen; many farmhouses have backup, but sockets near your bed may be few.
  • Sunglasses and a cap for afternoons on the lawn.

The shared group kit

Split this between two or three people so no one is carrying everything, and decide in the group chat who brings what.

ItemWhy it matters at a farmhouse
Torch or headlampLawns, gardens and parking areas can be dark; village roads have little street lighting.
Mosquito repellent and coilsFields, trees and water nearby mean mosquitoes in the evening, especially after rain.
First-aid kitBand-aids, antiseptic, ORS, a thermometer, and anything for stings or scrapes.
Bluetooth speakerSome farmhouses provide one; check first. Keep the volume within the house's music rules.
Extension boardHandy for charging several phones near the sit-out.
Garbage bagsYou are expected to leave the place tidy; bags make clean-up quick.
Playing cards, board gamesFor after the pool closes and outdoor music stops.
Cricket bat and tennis ballsIf the farmhouse has box cricket, some provide gear but your own is often better.

The food and kitchen box

Most farmhouses have a kitchen, but what is inside varies a lot. Some have full utensils, a stove and a fridge; others are more basic. Check the farmhouse page and ask on WhatsApp if cooking matters to your plans.

  • Large cans of drinking water
  • Snacks for the drive and the evening
  • Breakfast basics: bread, butter, eggs or poha, tea, coffee, sugar, milk
  • Paper plates, cups, tissues and a couple of serving spoons
  • A knife, a lighter and a bottle opener
  • Insulated box with ice packs
  • Barbecue charcoal and skewers, if the farmhouse has a BBQ setup and you plan to use it (some charge for this as an add-on)

Shops near the farmhouses are small, so do the big shop in the city or in Moinabad town on the way. If you plan to cook a full meal, our post on what to cook at a Moinabad farmhouse has menu ideas.

Extra items if children are coming

  • Swim diapers, arm bands or a swim vest that fits properly
  • A change of clothes for every two hours of play
  • Their own pillow or soft toy for sleeping in an unfamiliar room
  • Mild snacks, a sipper and their usual milk
  • Kids' sunscreen and mosquito repellent safe for their age

Parents of very young children may find our post on a farmhouse stay with an infant or toddler useful.

What to leave at home

  • Glass bottles and glassware for the pool area; most farmhouses do not allow glass near the water.
  • Expensive jewellery you would worry about by the pool.
  • Loud speakers for late-night outdoor use; most farmhouses move music indoors after a set time.
  • Pets, unless the farmhouse page clearly says they are welcome. Pet rules vary by farmhouse.
  • Fireworks or decorations that the house rules do not allow; check first.

Packing for the drive itself

Whether you come in via the ORR from Gachibowli or Kokapet, or through Langar Houz and Himayat Sagar from the older parts of the city, keep a few things in the car rather than the boot:

  • The farmhouse location pin, saved offline in case the signal drops on the village road
  • The caretaker's number and the WhatsApp booking chat
  • Cash for small purchases; UPI works in most places, but networks can be patchy
  • Water and a snack for anyone who gets carsick
  • FASTag balance topped up if you are taking the tolled ORR
