When NRI Family Visit: A Moinabad Farmhouse Get-Together
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team
When relatives fly in from abroad, everyone wants time with them at once. A Moinabad farmhouse gathers the whole family in one private place for a day or a night.
When family members visit from the US, the UK, the Gulf or Australia, their trip usually turns into a blur of house visits, one relative after another, with jet-lagged children in tow. A day or night at a Moinabad farmhouse fixes that: you bring the whole extended family to one private place, the visitors get to rest instead of travelling across Hyderabad, and the cousins finally get time together. Moinabad is also a short drive from the airport via the ORR and next to Chilkur Balaji, which many visiting families want to see anyway.
This post covers how to plan a get-together around a short visit: when to schedule it, how to book from abroad, and how to look after visitors who are no longer used to Telangana heat, mosquitoes and late dinners.
Timing it within a short trip
NRI visits are often two or three weeks packed with weddings, paperwork and doctors' appointments. The farmhouse day works best when it is fixed early.
- Avoid the first two days. Jet lag hits hardest then, especially for children. Our post on heading to a Moinabad farmhouse straight from the airport covers the one exception, when a quiet overnight stay is the whole point.
- Use a weekday if the visitors are flexible. They are on holiday; it is the local family who has work. A weekday is usually cheaper than Friday, Saturday or a holiday, and roads are calmer. If most of the local family can only come on a weekend, book that instead.
- Keep it away from the departure day. Packing and last-minute shopping eat the final day or two.
- Think about season. Many families visit in December and January, when the weather is pleasant. Summer visits, March to June, are very hot; plan pool time for mornings and evenings.
Booking a Moinabad farmhouse from abroad
Often the visiting family wants to host, as a thank-you to everyone. Booking from overseas is straightforward because you can see live availability and the full price for your dates on each farmhouse page and reserve online. Payment options include UPI, cards and net banking; if an overseas card gives trouble, a relative in India can complete the payment. You can also send a free booking request and confirm on WhatsApp, which works across time zones. A request does not reserve the farmhouse until it is confirmed, so don't leave it until you land.
The Moinabad farmhouse booking guide explains each step. Some practical notes for overseas bookers:
- Name a local relative as the on-the-day contact for the host.
- Carry government photo ID for every adult; most farmhouses ask for it at check-in, and visitors should bring their passport or other accepted ID.
- Read the house rules on deposits, music, outside food and timings, since these vary by farmhouse.
Choosing a farmhouse for a three-generation group
| Who is coming | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Grandparents | A ground-floor AC bedroom, step-free seating, Western toilets |
| Visiting children | A kids' pool or shallow end, shade on the lawn, a quiet room for naps |
| Teen cousins | Box cricket, games, Wi-Fi so they can stay in touch with friends back home |
| Everyone | A big dining space, a kitchen, power backup for the AC |
The kids-friendly farmhouses in Moinabad are a good starting list. If the family is large, check the base guest count and the per-person charge for extras on each farmhouse page.
Looking after visitors who have been away
Children raised abroad, and adults who have lived away for years, often feel the conditions more than locals do. A little preparation avoids a sick child on day two.
- Water: bring sealed bottled water for the visitors, and use it for brushing teeth too.
- Sun: sunscreen, hats, and pool breaks in the shade. The midday sun around the pool is strong even in winter.
- Mosquitoes: repellent at dusk, long sleeves in the evening, especially near the lawn and water.
- Food: keep a mild option alongside the biryani and pickles for children who aren't used to the spice.
- Medicines: pack basics and any prescriptions; farmhouses are a drive away from the city.
Adding Chilkur Balaji
Chilkur Balaji, on the banks of Osman Sagar, is known as the "Visa Balaji". Devotees walk 11 pradakshinas to make a wish and 108 once it is fulfilled, so families whose visas came through often want to return and complete their 108. The temple is known for not accepting money offerings and has no paid special darshan. It is crowded on weekends and festivals; a weekday morning is calmer, which suits a visiting family well. Pick from the farmhouses near Chilkur Balaji so the temple and the get-together fit in one easy day.
Making the day count
- A family photo on the lawn in the late-afternoon light, with every generation in one frame.
- An old-photo album passed around, so visiting children can see their parents as kids.
- A cooking session where a grandparent teaches a family recipe.
- Cricket for the cousins, however mixed the skill levels.
- A video call with family members who couldn't travel.
Food and supplies are best bought in the city or Moinabad town before you arrive, since shops near the farmhouses are small. Meal, bonfire and barbecue add-ons, where offered, are priced separately.
