From Mehdipatnam and the Old City to Moinabad's Farmhouses
· 5 min read· by Moinabad Farmhouses Team

The toll-free road from Mehdipatnam and the old city to Moinabad runs past Himayat Sagar. Here is how to time it, where to stock up and how to plan the ride home.
If you live in Mehdipatnam, Tolichowki, Attapur or anywhere in the old city, Moinabad, the largest cluster of private farmhouses near the city, is an easy drive west, and you do not need the Outer Ring Road to get there. The usual route goes out through Langar Houz, skirts Himayat Sagar and enters Moinabad mandal via Aziz Nagar, with no toll on the way.
That road is simple, but it has a few habits worth knowing: an evening squeeze near Langar Houz, a lake stretch that is lovely in daylight, and village lanes at the far end that turn very dark after sunset. This post is about planning around them.
The Langar Houz to Aziz Nagar route, in plain words
From Mehdipatnam you head towards Langar Houz, continue past it towards Himayat Sagar, and follow the road that runs alongside the reservoir into Aziz Nagar. Aziz Nagar is the first Moinabad village many of you will reach, and a good number of farmhouses sit around it or a few kilometres further along village roads.
From deeper in the old city, such as Charminar, Falaknuma or Bahadurpura, most people join the same road at Langar Houz. From Tolichowki and the Shaikpet side, you can drop down to Langar Houz too, though some guests heading to farmhouses further west find the ORR easier. For the full set of route options from every side of the city, see our guide on how to reach Moinabad from Hyderabad.
Why this route suits west and south-west Hyderabad
- No toll. The ORR is tolled; the Himayat Sagar road is not. For a group in three or four cars, that adds up both ways.
- Fewer motorway merges. Older relatives who prefer city roads to high-speed expressways often find this drive more relaxed.
- A view on the way. The stretch along Himayat Sagar is open and green, especially after the monsoon.

Timing: when the road is easy and when it is not
The one real bottleneck is around Langar Houz in the evening. On a Friday, when half the city is also heading out, the whole journey can take about twice as long as it would on a quiet morning. Long weekends are similar.
| When you leave | What to expect | Our suggestion |
|---|---|---|
| Weekday or Saturday morning | Usually the smoothest run | Ideal for a day outing or an early start before check-in |
| Around lunchtime | Moderate traffic | Fits the usual early-afternoon check-in well |
| Friday evening | Slow near Langar Houz, can double travel time | Leave before office traffic or accept a later arrival |
| After dark on any day | Main road fine, village lanes unlit | Share a live location pin with every driver |
Most farmhouses check guests in sometime in the early afternoon, so a late-morning departure from Mehdipatnam usually lands you right on time with room for a shopping stop. Check-in times vary by farmhouse, so confirm on the farmhouse page before you set off.
Stocking up before you leave the city
Shops near the farmhouses themselves are small. Coming from the old city actually gives you an advantage here: you pass through busy neighbourhoods with plenty of choice before the road opens up. Buy what you need while you are still in the city or in Moinabad town, not after you have turned onto a village lane.
- Meat and marinades for a barbecue, if your farmhouse has a BBQ setup and allows you to use it
- Bread, snacks, fruit, soft drinks and plenty of drinking water
- Ice, if you are planning a long evening by the pool
- Charcoal, paper plates, garbage bags and a basic first-aid kit
We have a separate post on where to stock up before check-in, with a fuller checklist. Rules on outside food, cooking and catering differ between farmhouses, so read the house rules first.
Combining the drive with Chilkur Balaji
Many families from this side of the city like to visit Chilkur Balaji on the same trip. The temple sits on the banks of Osman Sagar, close to the Moinabad farmhouse belt. Weekday mornings are calmer; weekends and festivals get crowded. A sensible plan is darshan in the morning, lunch, then check-in in the early afternoon. If the temple is the main reason for your trip, browse farmhouses near Chilkur Balaji temple so the hop between the two stays short.
Picking a farmhouse that works from your side of town
Moinabad is spread out. Some farmhouses sit near Aziz Nagar, close to where the Himayat Sagar road arrives; others are further west towards the Chevella road, nearer villages such as Kanakamamidi, Surangal and Tolkatta. If shaving time off the drive matters, start with the farmhouses around Aziz Nagar, then widen the search if you want a particular feature.
Each farmhouse page shows its live distance and a location pin. Before you pay, drop the pin into your maps app from home and look at the route it chooses. If it sends you onto the ORR and you would rather stay on city roads, compare the two options yourself.
Questions worth asking on WhatsApp
- How far is the farmhouse from the main road, and is the lane paved?
- Is there a landmark near the gate that is easy to spot at night?
- How many cars can park inside?
- Will the caretaker be at the gate when you arrive?
Getting home: the part people forget to plan
Check-out is usually in the late morning. That works in your favour: a Sunday late-morning drive back through Himayat Sagar and Langar Houz is generally easier than a Sunday evening one. If your group wants to stay longer, ask whether a late check-out is possible rather than assuming it.
If anyone is travelling by cab, remember that booking a ride to Moinabad is easy, but getting one back from a village can take longer. Book with some buffer, or arrange for one of the cars to drop people at a main road. And if the party involved drinking, the driver for the morning should be someone who did not. Never drink and drive, especially on dark village roads.
